The Ryan Bryn Jones Young Handlers’ and Mare Awards

Part of the Ryan Bryn Jones Memorial Trust

In July 2019, we tragically lost our own Greatest Showman Ryan Bryn Jones. Throughout the world, there was an outpouring of grief that enabled his family to set up The Ryan Bryn Jones Memorial Trust. Part of this is the Young Handlers’ Awards, set up in memory of Ryan and in recognition of one of his greatest pleasures – encouraging and training other young handlers to help them achieve their goals.

After all, we all started somewhere…

The Ryan Bryn Jones Young Handlers Award Scheme will run in 2023, and this year’s British National Championships will see the inaugural presentation of the Young Handlers Awards. The winners in each section will receive a sash and rosette, and a photograph with the Ryan Bryn Jones Young Handlers Memorial Trophy, beautifully created and cast by J Anne Butler.

Also to be presented at both the British National Championships and the UK International Arabian Horse Show is the Ryan Bryn Jones Memorial Mare Trophy. Sashes and rosettes will be awarded, and a photograph taken with this beautiful bronze trophy created by J Anne Butler. We are very grateful to Anne for her time and passion in seeing these project through – with ‘run like the wind’ written on the trophy in Welsh Rhedeg fel y gwynt.

Due to the value of these trophies, the family regrets that they will not be able to leave with the winners. However, all names will be added to the plinths for both the Young Handlers and Mare trophies, ensuring that your part in Ryan’s history is secure. Photographs and information will also be added to this website as a record of Ryan’s continued legacy.

“We have had so much love and support from people around the world since Ryan left us,” said Sue on behalf of the Jones family. “This way of keeping his spirit alive means so much to us all. Thank you.”
